WUWEI, Gansu, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Newly crowned Romanian champion Eduard Grosu broke shoulder bone as he crashed during sprint to the finish of the ninth stage of Tour of Qinghai Lake on Monday.
Grosu, who won three stages including the previous two of the race, crashed into hoarding board about 30 meters prior to the finish line.
"He had his shoulder bone broken," an insider of the Tour organizing committee told Xinhua. "He has to retire from the race, unfortunately."
The sprinter of Nippo-Vini Fantini got terrible bruise at right shoulder and thigh and staggered to the finish line pushing his bike.
He wept in obviously acute pain as the first aid workers cut open his tight outfit to check his injury.
Then he was sent to hospital to have further check.
