MADRID, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Unemployment in Spain fell in June compared with May thanks to the start of the peak tourist season, according to data published on Tuesday by the Ministry of Employment, Migration and Social Security.
The number of people registered as unemployed fell by 89,968 people in June compared with May, the ministry said, as traditionally the service sector hires more staff in summer to deal with the increased tourist demand.
The total number of people registered as unemployed stood at some 3.16 million in June, the lowest since December 2008.
By sectors, services' unemployment fell by 66,698 people in June, while that in the construction sector and industry sector fell by 9,407 people and 9,123 people respectively.
However, unemployment in agriculture sector rose by 2,573 people.
Over the last year, unemployment fell by 200,649 people in Spain, according to data published by the ministry.
