BEIRUT, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's tennis national team scored a major achievement Sunday by beating Chinese Taipei 3-2 in the Asian-Oceania second group of the Davis Cup competition.
The games that were played on the grounds of the Taadod club in Beirut saw Lebanon leading Chinese Taipei 3-2, setting up a match with the team from Hong Kong, who beat Iran in the same group.
Lebanon led 1-0 Saturday after Benjamin Hassan won the single match against Yu Cheng-Yu from Chinese Taipei 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
In the second game, Lebanon's Hady Habib beat Lee Kuan-Yi 6-4, 6-3 to lead 2-0.
On Sunday, Giovani Samaha/Hady Habib beat Chen Ti/Yu Cheng-Yu and secured Lebanon's win 3-0.
After securing the win, Lebanon's captain Nasri Achkar introduced two promising junior players: Michel Saade who lost his game against Tseng Chun Hsin 6-0, 6-0, and Jad Ballout who lost the game against Chen Ti 6-1, 6-1 for an overall result of 3-2 for Lebanon.
